TOWN BOARD MEETING. (Own Correspondent). The monthly meeting of the Town Board was held on Monday night. Present: Messrs. J. N. Barrie (chair), A. H. Bull. A. G. Clark and A. Acott. Correspondence was received as follows: From the the Bank of N.Z. stating that the interest on overdraft would be raised as from March I.— Received From the secretary of the Public Library committee asking for financial assistance towards fencing the front of the building.—This was held over for further consideration, when more definite information could be received. From Mr. J. G. Steven, resigning his position as sexton.—Accepted, and tlie clerk was instructed to arrange for a new sexton.

The chairman reported that he had arranged with Mr. Knight, regulations governing the use of the “dump” which Air. Knight allows the hoard to use.—The chairman’s action was confirmed. The clerk reported that rates to the amount of £lO3 10/were outstanding and that the bank overdraft stood at £B3 5/-. Accounts to the amount of £39 18/5 were passed for payment. A letter was received from the board’s solicitors stating that the Public Loans Board was agreeable to the Town Board borrowing £4OOO nt not more than 6 per cent, for the purpose of installing a town water service. It was decided to instruct the solicitors to make arrangements for taking a poll of ratepayers as soon as the necessary advertising had heeTi done. It was decided to rail a public meeting of ratepayers prior to th<» poll, when all particulars will bo placed before them. The clock presented Io the Public Library by Mr A. Knight has now been installed, and with the concrete hood designed by Mr. J. Ashby gives the front of the building a very handsme appcarancp.
