Oscar Asche, in an article in the “Star” criticising the selection of only 15 men for the Australian test team, says: “It is not a mistake but disgraceful meanness and class stupidity. The gentlemen responsible should have their statues by Epstein erected on the Sydney and Meloburne grounds as sanctuaries for sparrows and butts for the ribaldry of barrackers.”
