N.Z.-CANADIAN TRADE
PROSPECT OF IMPROVED SHIPPING. [Pei Press Association.) Wellington, February 6. For the purpose of investigating on the spot possibilities in regard to an improved shipping service between Canada and New Zealand, and for extending the already growing trade between the two Dominions, Mr 11. B. Teakie. the general manager for Canadian National Steamships, and also representative of the Canadian National Railways, arrived in New Zealand ten days ago, and has been through the North Island from Auckland, taking en route all the principal resorts, and observing the industries. He is greatly impressed with all that has been accomplished by so young a country as New Zealand, end considers that the prospects, both from the point of view of primary produce and trade, are bright. The company’s boats proceed monthly by way of Panama to Eastern Canada, and work in closest cooperation with the Canadian National Railways. “While I do not wish to discuss publicly questions of reciprocal trade between our two countries,” he said, “I will say that out boats never return to Halifax or Montreal empty. There is a market in Canada for your New Zealand products, and I believe there is also a very fine market here for Canadian goods. It wa.: naturally in the interests of my company,” he also said, “to encourage t.iunst traffic from England to Naw Zealand through Canada.”
