SUB-CENTRE CHAMPIONSHIPS CISBORNE WINS BELL CUP. MILE RELAY TO HASTINGS. Cisborne, Feb. 1. •The Hawke’s Bay and Poverty Bay sub-centre athletic championships were held on Childer’s road reserve this afternoon before a large attendance. The meeting opened in idea) weather, but rain fell for the concluding events. Some disappointment was felt by the public that the projected meeting in the 100 yards ladies’ championship between Miss Lean (Napier) and Miss Wilson (Gisborne) did not eventuate. While running in her heat Miss Lean badly ruptured a muscle in her thigh. She could only finish second, and was unable to run again during the day, the filial being won by Miss Wilson. The spectators were roused to a high pitch of enthusiasm in the three miles flat championship, when Fisken (Gisborne) and Bradley (Takapau) fought ou a thrilling finish, Fisken winning by less than a yard.
