“DO IT NOW”
A night and two more business days, and Christmas shopping will be finished. Wise indeed have been those, and there have been many, who have followed the advice to shop early. They have reaped two advantages—they have had the better selection and made theirs in less crowded shops. There are, however, among us the dila tory souls, the indolent, and the forgetful who habitually defer action until the latest moment, and others who are compelled by circumstance to do so. To these the advice is to make the utmost use of the opportunity that remains. The best slogaA to offer is “Do it now.” Let them become “early birds after the worms.” They will find that they can do their shopping in greater comfort early on the two mornings that remain than during the afternoons and evenings. The temptation is invariably to put off the execution of these tasks until the very last moment, but considerateness and self-interest alike demand that the temptation should be firmly resisted. Let them remember that these Christmas days are ones of great strain for those who serve the shoppers. Even when the business is spread out the stress is .bad enough. When it is concentrated into the last-minute rush the wear and tear are very great on the victims of our procrastination. The salesmen and women
give strenuous and efficient service. It is up to the purchasers to prevent their labours being needlessly onerous. A far wiser course is to forestall the last minute rush and do our shopping in the early hours of the days that remain. There is nothing more certain than that there will still be sufficient numbers left to make a formidable rough, and tumble scramble shortly before closing hour on Christmas Eve.
