COUNTERFEIT COINS

CIRCULATING IN N.Z. WARNING TO BUSINESS PEOPLE (Per Pres* Association.) Christchurch, Dec. 7. Christchurch is believed to be the centre from which counterfeit coins, at present in circulation in large numbers, are being issued. The banks have given another warning to business people to be careful in accepting silver coins, especially half crowns and florins. The tellers are regularly turning away large numbers of coins which on examination are found to bo spurious. It is extremely difficult to say in which centre tho counterfeiters are operating, hut the presence here of large numbers of bad coins suggests that the centre is in all probability Christchurch.
