HASTINGS BAND CARNIVAL
CLOSES TO-NICHT. PRICES REDUCED. The Hastings Citizens’ Band Carnival caught on wonderfully with the populace, and the Assembly Hall was crowded every evening with joyous throngs of people, bent on having a good time. On Saturday night the Assembly Hall was packed to such an extent that the floor space, gallery, balcony and the supper room were inadequate to hold the assemblage in roomy comfort. The attractions at the hall were quite alluring, and at the stalls every one received full value, if not more than value, for every shilling spent, whilst at the side shows and in the cabaret there was a great rush of business during the afternoon and evening. In the afternoon the Napier band played selections on the streets, and their presence lent valuable assistance to their Hastings brethren in their efforts, an assistanoe for which the Hastings band are much indebted. The Hastings Boy Scouts organised a very successful copper trail, and throughout, they displayed their keen enthusiasm in their work. In the afternoon a comical procession was held by the Napier band, amidst much gaiety, and a spectacular procession at night drew large crowds along to the hall. Owing to the undoubted success of the carnival, it has been decided to extend the activities for another day and, consequently, the Assembly Hall was open again to-day, from inid-day to six o’clock, and it will lie open to-night from 7 o’clock to midnight. Everything still left'at the stalls must be cleared. There will he no auction of the articles, but they will be sold at reduced prices, tho cabaret will he open again this evening from 9.30 o’clock till midnight.
