ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES
(Per Press Association.) Mrs. Jessie Partington, aged 53, wife of a gaol warder at Wanganui, was missed from her home early yesterday morning. Her body was found washed ashore at Castlecliff in the afternoon, it is believed that she jumped into the river near the town bridge, the tide carrying her body to the sea, a distance of five or six miles. An electric wireman, Arthur Benton, single, aged 40, and residing in Dunedin, was engaged with other workmen yesterday at Maungahau near Mosgiel putting a transmission line on to the main line from Waipori to Dunedin, when he was electrocuted. The new line was being hauled across the main line which was carrying 35.00 V volts. The deceased’s hand apparently came in contact with the bare wire. A car driven by A. McKenzie, of Wellington, who was accompanied by his wife, skidded at a bad spot on Piriaka Hill when en route to Wanganui yesterday and went over a steep bank and fell 200 feet. McKenzie was taken to hospital with shock and injuries to the head, but is progressing satisfactorily. Mrs. McKenzie is suffering from shock but is not in hospital. The car was badly damaged. Henry Langley Braddon, aged 53. was accidentally killed to-day at Shakespeare Bay, Picton, by falling over a cliff. A motor truck driven by a married man, Buckley (on his first job after a long time unemployed) was struck by an inward-bound train at the Avondale level crossing this morning. The driver had an astonishing escape, being thrown clear of the truck, and was picked up 20 yards away covered with wreckage. His injuries are not serious. The locomotive was damaged and unable to continue the journey.
