MONTHLY COMMITTEE MEETING MANY MATTERS DEALT WITH. The monthly meeting of the committee of the Hawke’s Bay A. and P. Society was held at the Tomoana Showgrounds, Hastings, this morning, Mr R. H. Tod presiding over a large attendance of members. The military secretary to His Excellency the Governor-General wrote seating that His Excellency would be pleased to be present at the Spring Show should his official engagements permit him to do so—lt was decided that should His Excellency not be able to attend, then the Hon. E. A. Ransom Minister of Public Works, be asked to open the memorial building at the Show. the Hastings High School wrote staling that it had been agreed to establish wool-classing classes at the school, and asked if members of the • scuety, who cared to, would be able to supply fleeces.—This question was left to the secretary, it being mentioned that should farmers be approached, then there would fie a good response.

Messrs Carlile, McLean, Scannell and Wood advised that the society s request for immediate payment of the late Sir Douglas -UcLean'e legacy would come beiore the residuary legatees at an early date.—Received. The Gisborne Society wrote expressing thanks to the Hawke’s Bay Society for its action in reverting back to October 16 and 17 for its show, so as to avoid a clash with the Gisborne fixture —Received.

The New Zealand Pig Breeders’ Association advised that the Perrett Shield had been allotted to the society, and this was accompanied by a gold medal valued at £3 3s. The shield goes to the exhibitor securing the most points in the pedigree Berkshire classes.—Received.

The Hastings Poultry Society asked if it might run an art union at the forthcoming show, and advised that their pens would be available for the A. and P. Society.—Agreed to. The New Zealand Railways wrote stating that the train arrangements for the forthcoming show Would be practically the same as last yeai.— Received. ABOUT THE DOGS. The following judges were appointed for the dog section at the coming show: —Messrs J. G. Parker (sporting collies. Old English sheep, and Alsatians), C. L. Thomas (all terriers), J. Bradburn (bulldogs), W. Whyte (working sheep dogs), and R. II Shepperd (all other bieeds). A petition was received from a number of dog fanciers asking the society to protest to the New Zealand Kennel Club against the abolition of challenge cups and the substitution of the points system.—lt was decided to forward the protest to the New Zealand Kennel Cub. The meeting dealt with a numbei of matters relating to the dogs, and passed a vote of appreciation to the club and fanciers for their energy and services. COLEMAN MEMORIAL. The Grounds Committee reported on various matters and submitted two inscriptions for placing on the brass tablet to be affixed to the Memorial Rest Room.

It was decided that the following inscription be affixed,: “The Coleman Rest House.—To coini«emorate the services of the late Mr J. H. Coleman and the other pioneers of the society as represented by the follow ing past presidents at the end of the 19th century.—Erected 1929. Mr H A. Russell stated that iust ovm £>*lo had been received for the metyoriol, and this meant that ■>*> adijti'tsil £6OO would be required. The chairman stated that a separate account would be opened for this, and that all Onnations would be placed in this fund. Mr Russell urged that a strong appeal be made- to bho public on show days for the money. —lt was decided that this be done, and the arrangements are to be made by a committee already appointed. THE ROYAL SHOW. Questions regarding the proposal to hold the Royal Show in Hastings were discussed. It was agreed that the society had sufficient accommodation to handle all the entries that mieht be received When it came to finance, the questions of prize money and whether the show should be of three days’ duration were raised. It was decided to obtain the information from tho Royal Society. A final decision will be arrived st later.
