FUNERAL OBSEQUIES

MR. ARCHIBALD McLEAN. The funeral of Mr. Archibald McLean was held yesterday afternoon, when the remains were interred in the Havelock North Cemetery- The obsequies were attended by a large assemblage of mourners, gathered from all quarters of the province and representative of all members of the community who came to pav their Inst tribute of respect to the dead laird, who was held in universal regard by every class and creed Six of the Greenhill Station hands bore the coffin to the graveside, where the Revs. R. McCully (Maraekakaho) and J. A. Asher (Napier) conducted the Presbyterian service. When the body was interred the mass cf flowers, which filled an entire motor vehicle, were laid on the mound.

Floral tributes were sent, among others, by the following:—Greenhill employees, members of lona College Council, lona College Old Girls, chairman and directors of the H.B. Farmers’ Co-op., Assn., general manager and staff o f the H.B. Farmers’ Co-op. Assn., manager and members of staff of the Hastings branch of the H.B. Farmers’ Co-op., Assn., Hawke's Bay Agricultural and Pastoral Society, Royston Hospital, Hawke’s Bay Hunt Club, .president and members of the Hawke’s Bay Provincial Executive of the N.Z- Farmers’ Union, and Messrs McCulloch, Butler and Spence. A. AND P. SOCIETY'S TRIBUTE. Reference to the death of Mr Arch. McLeat war made by Mr R. H. Tod, president of the Hawke’s Bay A. and P. Society, this morning. The news, he said, must liave given all members a pang of regret. The late Mr McLean was a past president of the Society and had been a tower of strength by his great uork and wonderful exhibits. He was a happy combination of a practical man, a gentleman and an enthusiast, which made him a popular and competent judge. , . . ~ There was one pathetic incident, said Mr Tod, in connection with Mr McLean’s death—it was his great wish to see the coming Spring Show. He had arranged with a friend to take him to the show to see the judging of the cattle, and then to be taken home again. Mr McLean hud said that if he could see this show, then he was quite prepared to be taken away. It was decided to send a letter of condolence to the. relatives. and the motion was carried by tho members standing in silence.
