According to a report received from the Atlantic Union Oil Company Ltd., 4ugust 28, 1929, will mark the 70tli anniversary of the commencement of the modern petrolem industry. It was on August 28, 1859, that Colonel E. L. Drake “struck oil” in Venango County. Pennsylvania. In those early days oil wells were sought with the object of obtaining kerosene or burning oils; other products contained in the crude oil, such as naphthas or motor fuels and lubricating oils, being largely run to waste.
