ORGAN RECITAL

A BRILLIANT PROGRAMME. The popularity of Mr. C. B. Spinney’s organ recitals was demonstrated again last evening, when some 300 people assembled in St. Matthew’s Church, Hastings, to hear the excellent programme submitted. Mr. Spinney gave a masterly interpretation of specially-selected numbers on the organ, which charmed his audience. His expressions of the devotional intermezzo (from ((Cavallo ria Bustigana ”) and “A Christmas Pastoral’’ (Luard-Sclby) were beautiful, but the last item, “Paean” (Grand Offertoire (Spinney) a striking work opening with a brilliant trumpet flourish appearei t< b- the mos 4 favours number lb ttlso played “Prelud. in G Major” (Bach). “Phantasie from Sonat; 12” (Rhein; berger), “Scherzic Komantice’ ’ (Mansfield'' and “Finlandia” ((Sibe , lins) Mi. Spinney was assisted by Miss Prudence .Lewis a capable young violinistc of excellent promise, who played “Legend” (Wjeniawski), and “Hymn to the Sun” (Rimsky-Korso-koff) with a power and lucidity that created, a very favourable impression. - -
