Mr Stephens, of the New Zealand Fruit Board, visited Rotterdam in connection with a parcel of the Nor folk’s apples transhipped from London, which were considerably over ripe. He explained that thia was due to refrigeration difficulties before shipment and was unlikely to recur. Afterwards he motored to Frankfurt and found good apples from other cargoes oil every hotel table. MARGARINE MERGER. Australian and N.Z Press Association I London, Sept. 2. For some time past there have been heavy dealings in the shares of the Alargarino Union, which have risen this year from 70s to 126 s on rumours of an amalgamation. It is now announced that a provisional agreement has been signed for the amalgamation of the share capital of the Margarine Union, with which is associated the N. V. Margarine Union, and the ordinary share capital of Lever Broth ers on a basis of equal status. This ' involves a 'capital of £154,000,000 at present market price. The Margarine Union includes Van Denberg’s Home, Colonial and other dairy companies. The Margarine combine has long desired a direct inter est in West Africa. It is presumed that in future Levers will deal in soap exclusively arid the combine confine its attentiOh tb margarine, though the chain retail shops may. ,bo of assistance to Levers. CLEARING HALL. Dairy cows met with good competition before a large attendance of buyers, while prices real ised for pigs were rather disappointting, competition for this class of stock being poor.
