ALARMING FASHIONS

OLD TIME STYLES. 1000 YARDS OF TULLE IN FROCK. (Australian and N.Z. Press Association.) London, Sept. 3. Women buyers were frankly alarmed at the new season’s fashion at Olympia to-day. They seem suddenly to have reverted to tho type of a quarter of a century ago, such as the tucked m blouse, trailing skirts, “bits and pieces,” and the old time waistline. Some evening frocks contain upwards of 1000 yards of tulle, composed entirely of minute frills and ankle length. Obviously such fashions are good for trade, but whether the modern woman will consent to turn herself into an old-fashioned ballet girl in order to create industrial prosperity is questionable. Ono writer cynically predicts that next year they can expect a revival of the straw boater and high starched linen collar.
