NAPIER BOROUGH
MONTHLY MEETING OP COUNCIL. GENERAL BUSINESS DEALT WITH. The fortnightly meeting of the Napier Borough Council was held last night. Present: His Worship tho Mayor (Mr. J. Vigor Brown) and Councillors R. W. Goodgcr, F. Rice, C. D. Cox. J. C. Bryant, P. Higgins, W. G. Martin, S. G. Ellison/’ R. Rockery, and A. H. D. Mayne. The J#ain Highways Board advised that the Public Works Department had allocated to the council the sum of £461 11/2, being the council’s pro portion of the petrol tax collected for the period ended June 30. 1929. Tho Public Works Department advised that the sum of £513 4/11 had been paid tu the council’s account as a subsidy on the council’s unemployment loans. The council agreed that two nonglare floodlights be installed on the roof of the Municipal Theatre for the purpose of lighting Tift'en Park. On the recommendation of tho baths committee it was agreed that rope lines should be procured in accordance with an application made by tho Hawke's Bay Swimming Centre and that the rent for the Municipal Baths for swimming carnivals bo £2 2/- a night. In view of the council's financial position and as the estimates adopted For the current year did not provide for the work, the question o*' erecting a bridge over the railway line from Hastings street to the Marino Parade at an estimated cost of £268 was deferred. Tenders were accepted ns follows ■ Tramway axles, .1. .1. Niven and Co.. £59 7/-; poles, cross arms and sleepers, F. H. Claxton, £331 0/10, triplo-braidod cable (13 miles), £483 3/9.
