DOMINION TOURNAMENT. YESTERDAY’S MATCHES. POSITIONS OF TEAMS. Gisborne, Sept. 2. The fourth series of games in the New Zealand ladies’ hockey championship tournament was held to-day in fine weather and before an attendance estimated at about 1600. In section A wins were scored by Southland, Bush and Ruahine. Section B winners were Canterbury, Wairarapa and Wellington. Details. — A SECTION, Southland 6 v. South Canterbury 1 South Canterbury repeatedly invaded Southland’s circle, but lacked a goalhitter to finish off the forward movements. Misses Aker, Orr and Robson were the best of the losers’ forwards, Misses H. Campbell and Rogers were the pick of the South Canterbury backs. Ruahine 3 v. Poverty Bay A 1. Better all round team work gave Ruahine a win over the previously unbeated Poverty Bay A. Ruahine played like a machine, the forwards repeatedly breaking through the defence with rushes in which all the forwards participated. Bush 1 v. Auckland A nil. Auckland A and Bush had a close tussle. Bush’s winning goal being scored by Miss. W. Smith, after a good solo run. Miss Smith was outstanding for the winners, with Misses G. O’Donnell, N. Bailey, C. Small and G. Goss also prominent. Auckland’s best were Misses R. Craig. McEnteer, I. Hendl, O’Neill and Hyde. SECTION B. Wairarapa 2 v. Poverty Bay B nil. In defence the Bay fullback, Mis L. Ruru. shone out repeatedly. In the second half Miss F. Booth goaled early, and Miss I. Booth later added to the tally for Wairarapa. Canterbury 15 v. Auckland B o.— The winners’ form was not convincing as the previous day. ■ The shooting was rather inaccurate. Wellington i v. Eastern .3.—This was a hard tussle. Miss M. Lowe, the Eastern goalie, gave a really fine exhibition in the net, and in the Wellington defence Misses Playoe and Miller were prominent, while Misses McDowell and Prince shone in attack.
