After the elections the superintendent briefly thanked the members for their support and loyalty and congratulated those who bad been elected. Deputy-Superintendent Marven, First Foreman Hook, and Fireman W. J. Millar also spoke. ANNUAL REPORT. The annual report was as follows: “In the quiet but steady progress of the year three things stand out above others—the large number of calls received during the past twelve months, the visit of the advisory superintendent—Captain T. J. Watts, and the extension of the brigade's activities to take in portion of the main road to Hastings and the houses immediately adjacent to it. “Whilst the brigade has had but half the amount pass through its hands this year compared to last, yet. were the bazaar effort and social moneys deducted from last year’s total it would be seen that the amount handled has been nearly the same. The sum of £193 5/1 has been handled and all but £27 2/7 expended. “The plant has been added to during the year. The Ford lorry presented by Mr. A. F. Hook has been overhauled, new parts obtained and generally made fit for brigade use. This machine carries a supply of regular hose, a standpipe, and 200 feet of first-aid hose: 150 feet of the regular hose which had served its turn and had got beyond use has been disposed of. Against this 600 feet of new hose has been added and another 200 feet is on order. When this comes to hand we shall have 1550 feet to work with. A second standpipe has also been added to the equipment, which is carried on the Dodge engine. On this machine has been mounted a syren In the station a pressure gauge has been installed and a record kept from this at all musters. One of the brigade members is resident at the station. A caretaker has his whare on the section so that the station can be kept clean and also that he can raise an alurm of fire quickly if necessary.

NINE CALLS ANSWERED. “During the past year the brigade was called out on nine occasions. Of these seven were within the Town Board’s area and two outside. Three of the calls were of a serious nature. The bakehouse of Mr. Roberts was ruined and had to be rebuilt though the ovens did not suffer to any great extent. The other two were outside the Town Board area and resulted in total losses to Mr. Hill and Mr. Fitzherbert. The other six fires were grass or rubbish and a haystack. U.F.B.A. CONFERENCE. “The superintendent was the delegate from this brigade at the U.F.B.A. conference at Hokitika in March. We forwarded a remit which was passed but, owing to the Government being the final authority, it may not come into force. The superintendent and two men attended the district conference at Marton at Easter, and the deputy-superinten-dent and six men entered for the district demonstration held at Wairoad. They came second in the twomen and the four-men motor events. “The brigade recently had a visit from Captain T J. Watts, advisory superintendent to the U.F.B.A. of New Zealand, when a full muster took place. He put a team through the four-men motor event and ex pressed satisfaction with their work Inspection of men and gear followed Although he has had yearly reports of the progress of the brigade he wks agreeably surprised not only at our plant but also at the efficiency of the members. “The uniform equipment has been added to by the purchase of eight leather helmets. Although four members resigned during the year the strength of the brigade has been maintained as six new members have joined. “Two entertainments for the benefit of the brigade yielded just on £l5 to the funds, while the annual appeal resulted in £B2 19/6 "Tn conclusion we must thnnk the honorary auditors for attending to the books at the end of the year and

all others who in any way helped the brigade by donation or in kind.” CROQUET CLUB MEETING. The annual meeting of the Havelorth North Croquet Club was held yesterday afternoon, Mrs. J. H.
