BUILDING IN HASTINGS

A BUSY MONTH. TWENTY-SEVEN PERMITS ISSUED. Building in Hastings during the month of August was very brisk, as the return sent in by the Borough Building Inspector (Mr C. Carrell) will show Permits were issued for 12 new dwellings and one- for a warehouse for Murray Roberts and Co., Ltd. An oil store is also included in the list. A total of 139 permits have been issued since April 1, of a value of £91,466. For the corresponding period in 1928, 97 permits of a value of £37,086 were issued. NAPIER RETURNS. The revival in the building trade in Napier is being fully maintained. During August the value of the permits issued totalled £14,707, including £4600 for a new store for the National Tobacco Co. at Port Ahuriri and £3160 for a. new shop in Emerson street for Mr Rice. The permits included six for new dwellings, as against only two in August, 1928,
