GENERAL NOTES
The acceptances received last evening by the Waipukurau Jockey Club are exceedingly good, and a successful meeting on Easter Monday is practically assured.
Seatown looked particularly well at Arapuni and seemed to be an improved horse on the second day. He hopped out -of the barrier smartly and won all the way. Seatown was a useful three-year-old, but unfortunately was troubled with unsoundness, and it is only this season that he has shown a return to form. Seatown has only to keep right to win good races.
Broad Acre was handy when the field turned for home in the Borough Handicap at Awapuni on Thursday, but finished out of a place. He had not done much racing recently, but it should not be long before he is at his best.
Ceremony’s knee will keep him from fulfilling his engagement in the Great Northern Champagne Stakes, and as Lysander’s form does not warrant the trip north Mr. Currie will not be represented at the Auckland Easter meeting. • • • Adventus. who made his first appearance at Awapuni on Thursday, is by Bisogne from Footstep, and, therefore, a full-brother to Bulolo. He is only two years old and is trained by his owner, Mr. S. J. Bailey, at Awapuni. • « • Toxeuma’s special mission at Ellerslie will be the Great Northern St. Leger. to be run on Easter Monday. Toxeuma is in the President’s Handicap on the fii't day with 8.7, and if started is not likely to disgrace himself over a mile and a-quarter. • • - Gascony’s severe lameness after the race for the Mamawattf Stakes has not been located by F. Davis. Shortly after the race he thought it ■ was either in the foot or the shoulder. As shoulder lameness is uncommon in horses the chances are that the trouble is lower down, and until the seat of the affliction is located it will not be possible to hazard a guess as to the length of spell he will require. There is hardly any doubt that Gascony’s puzzling loss of form at Taranaki, Wanganui and Wellington was due to this trouble, and it speaks volumes for his courage that he raced so well as he did.
The breakdown of Gascony after winning the Manawatu Stakes has decided Mr. T. H. Lowry against the Easter trip to Auckland, where he had both Gascony and Great Charter engaged in the Easter Handicap. Paganelli will not run in the Auckland Racing Club’s Easter Handicap. His connections have decided that he has had enough for the present season, and the brilliant Lord Quex gelding is to be given a spell. During the season he won six races, and was three times second in nine starts, his stake winnings being £2900.
Bright Glow, unless plans are altered, will go to Ellerslie to make another attempt to win the Easter Handicap. Last year she was unplaced.
Silver-Paper’s admirers are not disconcerted by his rise of 61b. in the Great Easter Handicap because of hts Trentham success, and he is sure to Ito one of the favourites. There seems no reason to doubt his ability to run out seven furlongs, for he has won at a mile, and was going extremely easily at the end of six furlongs at Trentham. His weight is 21b. under weight-for-age, and certainly he cannot be considered harshly treated.
Llanore is to make the trip to Auckland in the hope of being able to capture the Great Northern Oaks for Mr. A. Alexander. The filly has been affected with a very sore mouth and dental troubles since Onun.qke, but has almost fully recovered.
The Great Autumn candidate Rotor broke down bndly during a gallop at Riccarton on Saturday morning, and it is very unlikely that he will compete at the C.J.C. carnival.
