HASTINGS BRANCH. ANNUAL MEETING. The annual meeting of the Hastings branch of the N.Z. Labour party was held in the Trades Hall last night, when there was a good attendance of members. Mr. Queenan presided. A vote of condolence to Mr. Arch Lowe on the loss of hi* brother, was carried bv the members standing in silence. Tlie election of officers resulted: — President, Mr, J. Queenan; vicepresident, Mr. W. Stockham; secretary and treasurer, Mrs. S. E. Jones; executive, Messrs. Lyon, Cullinan, Ashford. A. Butcher, Wilson; auditors. Messrs. Lyon and Lemmon; delegates to L.R.C., Messrs. Cullinan, Stockham, and A. Butcher. The annual report submitted by Mrs. S. E. Jones, honorary secretary, traversed the year's work. The branch showed a credit balance of £8 6/10 at the beginning of the year, and at the end of the year there was a credit of £5 9/Is, with added assets valued at £54 9/9. The member had increased by 116 and the roll now numbered 224 In this regard, special mention was made of the service rendered by Mr. P. Cullinan who had done more than any other member to increase the roll. He had travelled far and had done everything possible in forwarding tl is work. The debating class was very popular and the members were improving rapidly. A library was started for which donations of books will be thankfully received by the secretary. The report wag adopted. Mr. Lyon proved himself a firstclass candidate at the parliamentary elections, increasing the Labour vote by 1,497 over the number polled at the previous election.
