WEEKLY HASTINGS SITTING. REMAND ON CHARGE OF FRAUD The weekly.sitting of the Hastings Magistrate's Court was held this morning, when Mr A. M. Mowlem, S. presided. Victor Milton Rowlands was charged with incurring a liability of £8 15s 6d to Frances Maria Griffiths, of the Ranfurly Private Hotel, by fraudulently representing that he owned a planation at Norfolk Island, that he was a qualified solicitor, that he had just received a bank draft from Norfolk Island, and that Williams and Kettle, Ltd., held £5OO for him. On the application of Senior-Ser-geant Dempsey, a remand was granted until next Wednes :day to enable the Auckland enquiries to come to hand. Mr O’Dowd, on behalf of the accused, agreed to the adjournment, and asked that the bail, £lOO self and two sureties of £lOO each, be again fixed. MISCELLANEOUS CASES. Maurice Wicken was charged with, being the rider of a motor-cycle, he carried more than two persons.. He was fined £1 and costs 10s Patrick Hassett was charged with driving a motor-cycle without holding a driver’s license. The defendant stated that he was learning to ride the machine. He was fined £1 and costs. George Alfred Bull was charged with, driving a motor vehicle across an intersection at a speed deemed dangerous to the public. A conviction was entered and a fine of £2 plus costs 10s was imposed. For being on licensed premises after hours. Donald Trass was fined £2 and Court costs 10s. CIVIL LIST. Broughton, £6, costs £2 9s 6d; J. Wilson and Son v. H. Crockett (costs only), 19s; Garton and Co. v. J. S. Cody, £l3 2s 3d, costs £2 14s; Powdrell Bros, v. W. A. Taylor. £5 16s lid, costs £1 10s Gd; A. J. Vidal and Sons v. T. H. Peet, £1 15s. costs 8s; A. J. Vidal and Sons v. W. G. Burke, 15s, costs Bs.

Judgment Summonses.—H. O. Lee was ordered to pay T. Donovan £2 16s forthwith, in default three days’ imprisonment: A. Gilhooley to pay Albert Kemp £4 2s fid forthwith, in default five days’ imprisonment; T. H. B. Styles to pay D. E. Scannell and another £3O Ils 6d in seven days, in default 28 days’ imprisonment; T. Styles to pay C. A. Cook £l2 13s in seven days, in default 13 days’ imprisonment.
