H.B. RIVERS BOARD

MONTHLY MEETINC. GENERAL BUSINESS. The/ ’monthly meeting of the Hawke’s Bay Rivers Board was held in Napier to-day. Present: Messrs. W. G. Jarvis (chairman), W. W. Smart. C. W. Hellyer, J. Macdonald, G. Latham, H. R. Clarke, C. Lassen, T. Donovan and G. Purves. The estate of the late D. Eriksen wrote accepting the Board’s offer to purchase the area near the Tutaekuri overflow channel. A letter was received from the Mayor of Hastings suggesting that the date of the Board elections should be altered to conform with the municipal elections. It was pointed out t’ 4 at the Board take place triennially, while the municipal elections took place every two years.—The chairman pointed out that the Board elections, which took place early in January, had proved to be a most inconvenient time, owing to the holidays, and many people were away from the district. It was decided that the Minister be approached on the matter. OVERSEER’S REPORT. The overseer (Mr. P. Scullin) reported :— Omahu to Pakowhai: To cutting and burning young growth and repairing fence at Mr H. H. Clark’s, cost for month £34 12/10. Fernhill to Pakowhai: To strengthening bank at Karatnu, cost for month, £23 14/6. Tuki Tuki: To cutting blackberry and gorse, cost £8 2/-. Old Bed Ngaruroro: Removing obstructions and ring barking, cost for month, £l9 11/9. Overflow Papakura: To improving channel, cost to date including tractor, labour and horse hire, £260. Puketapu: Tractor removing point. Cost for month £2B. Letter from Mr. S. Freeman re stock bridge over nilot channel at Waitangi: As bridge was dangerous I have had it repaired at a cost of £2 5/-. A gauge board has been elected in Ngaruroro river about 5 miles below Whana Whana Station.
