REVOLUTIONARY NEW PROCESS SIMULTANEOUS MESSAGES ON SAME WAVE-LENGTH. INTER-IMPERIAL POSSIBILITIES. / [United Press Assoclation-By CableCopyright.) [United Serviced (Received 5, 9.10 a.m.) London, March 4. The “Daily Mail” recounts that a revolution in wireless telephony has taken place, which is another triumph of inventive genius. A demonstration was given at the Marconi Coy.’s Bridgwater beam station of the transmission of speech 3,000 miles to Marconi’s vice-chairman at Montreal, by the multiplex system, on the same wave-length simultaneously with two wireless telegrams, uninterruptedly relaying to London hundreds of words per minute. The invention, which incorporates efficiency with economy in a unique manner, may be applied to all beam stations in the Imperial chain, avoiding the necessity of erecting new, or adding to existing telephonic stations. Sir Basil Blackett, the Hon. Frederick Kellaway and other high officials, with M. Mathieu, the inventor of the process, witnessed the demonstration, and carried on conversations with perfect audibility with the officials at Montreal. When the messages were received, they were sorted out by receivers atne to understand the Morse code. The spoken messages were regulated, fading being checked and uniformity of tone maintained. Immediately the speaker pauses, an automatic regulator permits the answer to come almost simultaneously, as speaking jams communication.
The invention secures almost complete secrecy, for listening-in is impossible without a similar installation. The apparatus is being prepared for the South African beam station. Inter-imperial adoption would result in enormously cheaper communication, enabling one telephonic and four telegraphic communications to be sent on the same wave-length simultaneously.
