Mr. C. J. Ronaldson, manager of the National Bank, Christchurch, has been elected district governor of Rotary for New Zealand.
The death took place last week at his residence in Bulls, of Mr. Ernest W. Morse, aged 66, a well known resident of the Rangitikei district.
Wanganui exchanges announce the death, aged 56, of Mr. Charles R. Stewart, a popular official of the local tramway department.
Owing to pressure of public business, the Mayor of Hastings (Mr. G A. Maddison) is unable to attend the Municipal conference which opens at Wanganui to.morrow.
Mr. V. C. Fookes, of the staff of the Bank of New South Wales, Napier, has bft to take up relieving duty at Thames. He then goes on to Auckland on permanent service.
The many friends of Mrs. M. E. Lanauze, of Hastings, who is a patient in a Napier private hospital, will learn with pleasure that she is making very satisfactory progress.
On inquiry at Royston Hospital this morning, it was ascertained that Mr. C. Norwell, of Haveloek North, who sustained serious injuiries in an accident last week, is slowly progressing.
The death took place last week at Taybrook, Wanganui, of Mr. Charles H. Parkes, a native and life-long resident of that locality. The deceased was a son of Mr. Charles Parkes, a surveyor under the Wakefield Settlement Scheme, who in 1838 assisted in laying out the Wanganui township, originally known in official circles as Petre.
At to-day’s meeting of the Hawke's Bay Rivers Board, a tribute was paid to the services of the late Sir Douglas McLean, who was one of the original members on the Rivers Commission, and also a valued member of the Board. It was agreed to place on record a tribute to his services, and to send a letter of sympathy to his relatives.
Miss Esma Boyd, the Australian lawn tennis player, is to be mniried in Edinburgh on March 11th to Lieut.-Colonel Angus Robertson, of Dunfermline, Fife. The bridegroomelect is the second son of the late Sir William Robertson, Lord, Lieutenant of Fifeshire, and is a director of the firm of Messrs. Hay and Robertson, Ltd., linen manufacturers, Dunfermline.

The death is announced of Mrs. Fanny E. Inge, wife of Mr. Percy G. Inge, gardener, which occurred at her residence in Louie street, Hastings, yesterday, at the age of 48 years The deceased came out from England some fifteen years ago, and settling in Hastings, lived here to the time of her death. Much sympathy is extended to the husband and his son in the sorrow that has befallen them. The funeral will leave Louie street, for the Havelock North Cemetery, to-morrow (Wednesday) at 2.30 p.m.
The funeral of Mr. Sam Charlton took place yesterday afternoon, when an exceptionally large gathering of representative citizens and the public generally followed the remains to the Hastings Cemetery, where the coffin was borne to the graveside by mem. bers of tho Masonic fraternity, of which body the deceased was a prominent members. The Rev. Morti-mer-Jones conducted tho solemn service of tho Anglican Church, Bro. the Rev. R. B. Waugh following with tho Masonic ritual. After the interment tho mound was covered with a mass of flowers, sent as tributes of esteem and affection. Amongst the wreaths were flowers from the Royal Arch Chapter, tho Heretaunga Masonic Lodge and the Hawke’s Bay Licensed Victuallers.
