SUPREME COURT
NAPIER SESSIONS CONCLUDED. COMPENSATION CLAIMS. At the final sitting of the Supreme Court at Napier on Saturday, before His Honour Mr Justice Ostler, the hearing of the claims of certain Napier residents for compensation under the Public Works Act was heard. Supporting His Honour on the Bench were Mr A. McGlashan. assessor for the claimants, and Mr Guy Rochfort. assessor for the Napier Borough Council. Three out of the four claims concerned land taken for Thackeray street extension, Mary Ellison claiming £420 compensation, James S. Jensen £564 8s 9d, and Albert Baxter £231 15s. Mr M- R- Grant appeared for the three claimants, and Mr H. B. Lusk acted on behalf of the Napier Borough Council. Fairly lengthy evidence was heard, following which His Honour and the two assessors made an inspection of the properties. On their return they awarded Mary Ellison £l2O compensa- • tion, James S. Jensen £203, and Albert Baxter £5O, certain charges being added to all three for interest. In the fourth case John Young Hannay, senr. (Mr L. A. Rogers) claimed from the Napier Borough Council £550 for land taken in Fara,day street extension. An award of £l5O with interest charges was made.
