CLEARING FOR ACTION LIBERAL CANDIDATES’ CONFERENCE. HINTS OF NEW UNEMPLOYMENT SCHEME. [United Prate Association—By CabloOopyrlghi.l (Australian Press Aeu.—United darrloe., (Received 2, 11.35 a.m.) London, March 1. Choosing the feast of St. David, the Welsh Patron Saint for the occasion, the Rt. Hon. D. Lloyd George addressed 410 Liberal candiates for the forthcoming election. He declared that although the Conservatives had promised prosperity and se« purity, Britain’s trade and industry bad seriously declined. After six years of Tory rule, agriculture was in the worst condition for half a century, while our influence abroad had decreased. Recent declining figures showed that the electors were shrinking from entrusting power to the Labour party, which was pledged to overthow the county’s industrial and commercial system. He declared that the Liberals were the only free party capable of completely dealing with the situation. Outlining the Liberal programme, he said that expenditure must be ruthlessly reduced and disarmament vigorously pushed on, the Singapore base being postponed until more had been done for England. Trade barriers at home and abroad must bo removed. He said that the Liberals were ready with a scheme which would bring back unemployment to its normal level without adding a penny to taxation.
