At the meeting of the Hastings Chamber of Commerce last night, the chairman (Mr. E. J. W. Hallett) welcomed Mr. D .M. Mclntosh, the now postmaster, as an ex-officio member of the chamber.

The death has taken place at Horahora, Whangarei, of Mr. John David McKenzie, aged 78. Deceased arrive* in New Zealand 71 years ago by the barque BreJalbane, from Nova .Scotia. He was associated with numerous local bodies for a very long period, including holding the chairmanship of the Harbour Board and the old North Auckland Hospital Board. He was also a member of the Auckland Education Board for approximately 30 years, with a term as chairman. Whangarei’s up-to-date hospital and harbour improvements arc primarily due to his enterprise. He leaves a widow with three adult sons and two daughters, all of whom are married.—* Press Assn.
