TEST CRICKET

WEATHER UNPROMISING IRONMONGER TO PLAY IF WEATHER WET. SELECTION OF BRADMAN AND A'BECKETT COMMENDED. ICnited Pre» Association—By Cable Copyriaht.j lAuitrahaa ana &.£. Press Assn.) (Received 28, 11.0 a.m.) Melbourne, Dec. 28. The test team selectors also chose Ironmonger to play in the third test should the weather be wet. The conditions point to thunderstorms and the weather clerk says that further rain is likely. The papers commend the selection of Bradman and A'Beckett, who will infuse youth in the team. The Sydney “Telegraph’s” expert deprecates the selectors' casual treatment of Kippax and Oldfield, who were not notified to be in Melbourne for the match. Had it not been for the chairman of the Board of Control, who took the matter into his own hands and instructed the secretary of the New South Wales Association to buy Oldfield’s ticket to Melbourne, the famous wicketkeeper might still have been in Sydney awaiting a call from Melbourne. The final team will be selected on Saturday morning. TEAM TO PLAY WELLINGTON. iPer Press Association.) Christchurch, Dec. 28. The selectors have chosen the following twelve men for the match against 'Wellington commencing on Monday:—Burns. Cunningham, Gregory, L. M. Hamilton, Jacobs Merritt, Newman, Page, Patrick, J. Powell, Read, and Roberts. [Australia’s team will be found on page 3.]
