NEAL AND CLOSE CUP PLAY. HAWKE'S BAY v. ST. PAUL’S. Hawke's Bay and St. Paul’s A met in a Neal and Close Cup match on Saturday in rather broken weather that made play intermittent. Although there was a big difference in tho sets, the games worked out much more evenly, Hawke’s Bay winning 127 to their opponents’ 107. Details of the play are as follow, Hawke’s Bay players being mentioned first:— Men's Singles. Vautier beat Morris, 9—5. McKay beat Richards, 9—2. Thompson beat McKechnie, 9—5. Adkins beat Cameron, 9—7. Ladies’ Singles. Mrs Mawson lost to Mrs Morris, 5-9. Miss Mcßae beat Miss Rea. 9—3. Mies Kelly beat Miss Morris, 10-8. Miss Simpsdn beat Miss Steele, 9-6. Doubles. Vautier and McKay lost to Morris and Richards, 4—9. Thompson and Adkins beat McKechnie and Cameron, 9—2. Mrs Mawson and Miss Mcßae lost to Mrs Morris and Miss Rae, 5—9. Misses Kelly and Simpson beat Misses Morris and Steele, 12—10. Combined Doubles. Vautier and Mrs Mawson beat Richards and Mrs Morris, 9—6. McKay and Miss Kelly lost to Morris and Miss Rae, 10—12. Thompson and Miss Mcßae beat McKechnie and Miss Morris, 9—5. Adkins and Miss Simpson lost to Cameron and Miss Steele, o—9. HASTINGS CHAMPIONSHIPS. The annual handicap tournament and Hastings championships will be held by the Hastings Tennis Club on Boxing Djy and the three following days. Entries close with the secretary, Mr. F. M. Murray, on Wednesday next, December 19. It is hoped that tennis enthusiasts will enter in large numbers to make this 'Xmas week tourney a success. Meetings such as these are the only way in which players can gauge their real ability at the game, as they come up against players from other clubs and thus discover their comparative ranking.
