POLICE COURT

SITTING IN HASTINGS. ' MOTORIST IN TROUBLE. At a sitting ot the Police Court, in Hastings this morning, William Single appeared before Messrs kdfeter Brook and F. C. Wilkinson, J's.P., to answer two charges; That he was intoxicated while in charge of a motor-cycle, mid that he did not possess a driver’s license. Senior-Sergeant Dempsey stated that tho defendant had had more liquor than was good for him. He had to go to Tomoana. His friends tried to stop him from riding his motor-cycle, but he attempted to do so, and could not hold the cycle. He was a married man. with three children. The Bench stated that the defendant was liable to three months’ imprisonment or a fine of 1150. In view of the circumstances, however, Ihe defendant was convicted and ordered to come up for sentence within twelve months on the first charge, and convicted and discharged on the second. TO-MORROW’S CASES. The list of cases set down for hearing nt the Magistrate’s Court tomorrow includes one application for separation order, one of theft, one of dangerous driving, one of failure to keen to the left, and six for maintenance. There are 76 civil cases, including 17 judgment suimnoneses and seven defended actions. Mr A. M. Mowlent, S.M., will preside.
