Soviet Covers Up Failure: The Supreme Court at Moscow, after a three weeks’ trial, imposed sentence of death on a director nnd a Inca branch manager of a wine company in respect of abuses causing a loss of over 1,000,000 roubles. Three others were sentenced to terms of imprisonment. There are no details, but lately it has been suggested that the Soviet is endeavouring to cover up the failure of its regime by attacks on administrators.
U.S. National Debt: President Coolidge’s forecast of thq expenditures of the United States Government during 1930 discloses an assured reduction of £100,000,000. in the national debt in that year.
Britain and Arabia: The conference between the British Government, tne King of the Hedjaz and the Sultan of Nejd for the settlement of outstanding questions has broken down. Precautions are being taken on the Iraq frontier.
England-Italy Telephone Service: The British Postmaster-General has announced that a telephone service will be established between England mid Italy, via Switzerland, on the 9th instant. Communications will be available from all parts of Great Britain but will be restricted initially in Italy to calls to and from Milan. Tho Postmaster-General also announced that a weekly air mail service has ben established with Brazil, Uruguay, and the Argentine, via France. The service may be used in addition for correspondence addressed to Paraguay, Bolivia and Chile,
