CARROL DEFEATS PURDY. AGGRESSIVE FIGHTER WINS. Wellington, August 9. To-night, in the Town Hall, Jack Carroll (10.3) welter-weight champion of Australia, defeated Charlie Purdy (9.12), light-weight champion of Australia and New Zealand, on points, after a 15 rounds professional contest. Purdy appeared out of condition. Carroll was the' more aggressive. The verdict was popularly received. CHAMPIONSHIP NOMINA TIONS. Oamaru, August 9. The following have been nominated by the North Otago Boxing Association for the Dominion championships:—Bantam, O. Brosnahan; light, A. Argyle; welter, O. Norton; heavy, A. Campbell.
