WAIPUKURAU.

(Own Correspondent.) The Waipukurau Operatic Society has ciecic.au to produce the'comedy, “Why SiSitli Left Homo’’ as their next production. This play is by the same author as “What Happened to Jones” which proved a big local success when staged here in the early part of this year. Tho Railway Department has appointed a keeper for the Ruataniwha street railway crossing and he commenced duty yesterday.

A frost of more than usual severity was experienced in Waipukurau yesterday morning, and combined with a light wind froiti tho direction of the snow-capped Ruahine Range produced atmospheric conditions that were very ‘ ‘ nippy. ’ ’ Mr R. N. Salt, well-known in Waipukurau as editor of tho “Press” and for some years past engaged in Christ ehurst as a journalist, is nt present on a visit to Waipukurau and renewing his assosciatin with many obi friend.

Mrs A. Abbott, of Racecourse road Waipukurau whoso health has been very unsatisfactory of late is leaving here on Monday to make her home in Auckland. Her son. Mr H. Abbott, of Waitara, is taking over her farm, Messrs H. Butler and D. H. Rickey have left Waipukurau on a motor tour to Rotorua and the centres in the Auckland province. They will be absent for about two weeks.

At Onga Onga on Saturday a contest in which more than ordinary interest was centred took place, when the Onga Onga team defeated the leading fifteen for senior championship honours '(Waipawa) by six point B to three, after an exciting game. This result places tho Waipukurau team within one point of the champions, and Onga Onga remains one point behind the runners-up. In the first spell, the scores were three all. Taylor kicked two penalty goals for the winner, and Ryan, in a like manner, accounted for the Waipawa score. Tho Onga Onga forwards were superior to the opposing pack and thus secured the victory for the homo side.—Mr P. R. Smyrk refereed.

The mutch to be played in Waipukurau, between the To Auto Co] lego and Wanganui Technical College teams, promises to be a very interesting one. Tho fixture is a Moascar Cup one, and it is expected that tho challengers (Wanganui) will run the holders closely. There should be n large attendance of the public at Russell Park on Saturday for this contest. The visitors are to bo “billeted” in Waipukurau for the week-end.
