FAMOUS ETCHINGS
COLLECTION FOR N.Z. CABINET AUTHORISES PURCHASE. ■Wellington, August 6. The formation of the nucleus of S collection of etchings has just been authorised by Cabinet, which has given authority for the acquisition by the Turnbull Library of a number of prints of famous plates. There are several famous Australian names in the list of pictures to be bought, notably Norman Lindsay, Lionel Lindsay, Sidney Long,, G. Friedensen, Van Raalte. A feature of the collection is that some of the work of David Low. the Christchurch artist, who is now one of the most famous cartoonists in the world, ia included. A condition of the purchase is that when the new National Gallery comes into being at Wellington the whole collection, together with othr pictures which the Turnbull Library possesses (notably a Rembrandt section) shall be handed over to the authorities of the Gallery to form the beginnings of a national collection.
