OTANE.
TOWN BOARD MEETING. The monthly meeting of the Town Board was held on Monday night. Present: Messrs J. N. Barrie (chair) A. H. Bull. T. E. Colquhoun and J.' T. Barlett.' Tenders were received for fencing the new stock road, and that of W. Marsh at 9s per chain was accepted. This includes removing old fencing and re-erecting Mr Wheeler’s gate. Mr Bull reported that considerable improvements had been made to the kitchen in the Town Hall, which will be of great convenience to those using the room.
The question of a summer camping ground for tourists was discussed, and it was decided to apportion the south west corner of the Recreation Ground for that purpose, and to notify the New Zealand Tourist Associa tio’n. The ground is very well sheltered and there is an ample supply of good water and necessary conveniences.
A number of necessary works were decided upon and the clerk was requested to get prices for cleaning out the drains in Knop and Bell streets.
The clerk reported that the credit balance in the general account was £3 7s 76, and in the housing £242. The monthly pay-sheet: Keneral £197 15? 96 and bousing £265 15s 4d, was passed -for payment. The next meeting will beheldon September 4th, and that will be the last meeting of the present board. The annual election will be held be fore the end of September. Tlin district “San.” visit is due on Tuesday the 14th inst. Unfortunately Most of the members of the committee are away, but conveyances will be supplied to take up the contributions. As it will bo impossible to canvas the district it is hoped that, contributions will be sent in voluntarily.
