WAIPAWA CLUB

ANNUAL MEETING.

The annual meeting of the W’aipawa County Racing Club was held on Wednesday, the president (Mr AV. J. Woods) presiding. Feeling reference was made to the loss sustained by the club in the death of one of the club’s oldest members. Air H M. Rathbone. A voto of condolence with the bereaved family was passed in silence. The report and balance-sheet showed the past year to have been a good one, and the club to be in a satisfactory financial position. During the year over £lOOO had been spent in making permanent improvements to the course. The grandstand had been shifted to the other side of the course, and was now quite close to the road. Shelter trees had been planted, and the racing track had been re-modelled and re-graded.

Arrangements have been made with the Hawke's Bay Jockey Club to hold this year’s Labour Day meeting on the Hastings racecourse. Reference was made to the excellent work of the club's officers during the year, particularly appreciative remarks being made on the splendid work of the president and of the secretary. The election of officers for the ensuing year resulted as follows: — Patron. Mr T. Butler; president, Mr AV. J. Wood; vice-president, Mr AV. H. Rathbone ; honorary treasurer, Mr J. T. Pickett; stewards, Messrs AV. I. Limbrick, A. E. Jull, R. AV. Bond, J. McCarten, C. Clark, T. AV. Wills, C. H. Critohley, W. A. Tod, AV. Taylor, T. Colquhoun and F. Eagle; judge, Mr R. H. Aidworth; handicappel, Mr J. E. Henrys; starter Air A. Vincent; clerk of scales, Mr P. Bollons; honorary timekeeper, Air T. AV. Wills; clerk of course, Mr F. E. Rowe; surgeon, Dr. F. AV. B. South; honorary veterinary surgeon, Mr A. Al. Brodie; judicial committee, Alessrs AV, J. Wood, W. H. Rathbone, AV. A. Tod, and R. AV. Bond. Several new members were elected.

H.B. DISTRICT COMMITTEE The Hawke’s Bay District Committee met yesterday afternoon and tha following were present; Alessrs H. A. Russell (chairman), G. D. Boatsou, J. H. Colcbourno, C. E. Twist, J. s'. McLeod and G. Ebbctt. The New Zealand Racing Conference forwarded various reports in connection with the recent conference of clubs held in Christchurch and also advised the licenses granted to Hawke ’s Bay trainers and jockeys. It was resolved to recommend that a further six months’ relief be granted to a local trainer. Various applications for licenses were received and the majority were forwarded to the conference. The following prgrammes were approved:— Napier Park Racing Club spring meeting AVaipawa Racing Club annual meeting aud Poverty Bay Turf Club spring meeting. JOCKEY CLUB COMMITTEE AIEETS, The following were present at the monthly meeting of the Hawke’s Bay Jockey Club committee:—Messrs H. A. Russell (president), J. S. McLeod G. Beatson, J. H. ColeAiourno. 11. R. Campbell, J. A. Macfarlanc, O. Nelson. J. Landels, A. Reid. T. H. Lowry, G. Ebbctt' and T. V. Morrin. The New Zealand Racing Conference asked that a resolution in rcferciic" to admissions to racecourses be passed and that notice be displayed at various entrances to the clubs’ racecourses. The conference wrote also regarding the forfeit list in the ofjicial calender.

Various correspondence was dealt with and the programme for rhe spring mooting on September 29 was received and approved.
