GENERAL NOTES

Entries for the Hawke’s Bay Hunt Point-to-Point Steeplechase close on Wednesday next. ... Final payments and acceptances for first-day events at the C.J.C. Grand National meeting close on Thursday, August 9. » » » Patuki was scratched at 4.10 p.m. on Monday for all engagements at the Grand National meeting. E. Ludlow, the Auckland horseman, is slowly recovering from an attack of rheumatism which he contracted at a provincial meeting in the autumn. This rider was in good form until he became indisposed, and it was unfortunate for him to be laid aside through bad health. His many friends will be pleased k> see him on the road to recovery again. v » »

Chelone is doing pleasing work at Awapuni, and is certain to run a good race if sent South for the Winter Cup.

Wingatui will have worthy representation at the Christchurch Hunt Club and Grand National fixtures. Yesterday Craigmore, Dubious and Overdrawn (owned by Mr. L. C. Hazlett), Scion and Umtall (from F. Shaw’s stable), and Royal Saxun were to go north. They have engagements at the Hunt meeting. Pamplona and Loughrea (owned by Mr. Hazlett), Miss Winkie and the Leighton—Flora Macdonald three-year-old Dumblane, will leave Dunedin for Christchurch next week to fulfil National engagements.

On Saturday Craigmore will be given an outing in tho Longbeach Hurdles, preparatory to the Grand National Hurdles, and he will meet several of his opponents in the big event at the Hunt meeting. Craigmore is a hurdler of great promise, but it is doubtful if he will be seasoned enough for the National. He is a natural jumper. • » *

Loughrea has been qualified over country this winter with the Otago Hunt, and the Kilbroney—Sister Radius gelding should more than pay his way in hunters' events. Loughrea is a tried stayer, with the Auckland Cup to his credit, and his class should stand him in stead. He has been shaping well over country.

Fred Shaw deserves credit for the way he has handled Scion (states a southern writer). On the Otago Central circuit last year Scion was given several outings, but the New Zealand and Auckland Cup winner seemed to be a back number even in th© mediocre class engaged. He was then owned by the late Mr. Biggins, and was later acquired by Shaw, who put him over battens. He has since run most promisingly. Scion will only have to survive the fences to be on hand at the finish of th© Hurdles at Christchurch.

Dubious is a proved stayer, having filled third place behind Wharncliffo and Kaikahu in the Grand National Hurdles of last year. He was then purchased by Mr. Hazlett. The Demosthenes gelding has started only twice over country. He ran tnird in the Otago Steeplechase last month, and would have been even handier at the finish if he had been hurried along. There was a change of tactics two days Inter, Dubious winning tho Forbury Steeplechase easily from hack company. Dubious is in the Grand National but will b© given a run in the Homeby Steeples on Saturday. Dubious, is a sure fencer, and his pnee and his performance on Saturday will give some guide as to his National prospects.

According to a Wanganui report a decision should be come to within a few days as to whether Bright Glow is to he taken to Sydney or not. The Day Comet mare is iti good order to begin a serious preparation. She is engaged in the Epsom Handicap, in which her . stable-mate, Paitonu, is also entered.

Reports from Thnaru state that all has been well with Tuki since the Wellington meeting, and he is to take his place in the field for tho Grand National Steeplechase, in which he will he ridden by A. E. Ellis.

Th© Hastings trainer, Miss G. Maher, arrived at Ricearton on Tuesday with Rod Fuchsia, Peneus. Kalos, Grand National, Locarno, and Indian Chief. All the team are expected to race at the Christchurch Hunt Club meeting on Saturday.

The Autumnus—Kirriemuir mare, Moorfowl, foaled a filly foal to The Ace on July 25 and the youngauer thus ranks as a yearling from August 1. Thi s is the first instance of such an important event at the Stonyhurst Stud, and is one of very few cases which have occurred in New Zealand.

The Farewell Handicap at the Gisborne meeting, won by Hulkal, was No. 1792 on the list of the galloping events for the racing season just closed. • • • A partnership, extending from 24th July last to 31st July. 1935. in the three-year-old Arrowsmith—Gazalie gelding Topare has been registered between Messrs J. Gillies and W. K. Hamilton. “READY” COMPLAINT DISMISSED. (Per Press Association.] Auckland, Aug. 2. A report from the Alexandra Racing Club, regarding an inquiry held into certain allegations made by one jockev against another, that the latter had attempted to “ready” the hurdle race at Pirongia last Boxing Day, was received by the Auckland District Committee to-day. The report was received, and the committee considered the locked who complained had failed to sustain his allegations. WHITE WINGS CASE. [Per Press Association.] Christhcurch, Aug. 2. The Racing Conference appeal judges. Messrs. 0. S. Watkins H. F. Johnston and J. G. Duncan, dismissed the appeal of G. A. Reid, owner of Lucy Rose, against the Onslow Stakes, at the Auckland autumn meeting, being awarded White Wings on the ground that she was not trained under the personal superintendence of her owner. W. Scholium, as provided under part 20, rule 3, of the rules of racing.
