TRIAL SHIPMENT OF H.B, PEARS.
SATISFACTORY FIGURES.
Mr. A. L. Baumgart, of Hastings, has received the following very satisfactory information regarding prices for New Zealand apples and pears on the South American market: The N.Z. Fruit Export Control Board advise having received cable information from their South American agents, Jose Poluffo and Coy., of Buenos Aires, that the shipment of apples per Mahia and Mamari realised the following prices:— Mahia: extra fancy 19/8, fancy 17/10; Jonathan, 13/11; other varieties, 14/6. Pears: £1 4/2 per crate. Mamari: Delicious, extra fancy 19/3, fancy 17/6; Jonathan, 13/4; other varieties, 14/2. The pears referred to in the above cablegram are a trial shipment of 300 crates from Hawke’s Bay. The excllent prices secured indicate that there should be a market for New Zealand pears in South America, and this question is receiving the attention of the representative of the N.Z. Fruit Export Control Board, at present in the Argentine. The prices of the New Zealand shipments of Delicious (fancy and extra fanev) have consistently ranged from 17/10 to 20/-.
