LEGION OF FRONTIERSMEN. HERETAUNGA SQUADRON WINS DE ESTERRE CUP. The Humber of the last Frontiersman enrolled is 17,891, and they are spread all over the world. In New Zealand they have a number of challenge cups which are shot for all the year round. The chief of these is the De Esterre Challenge Cup, which was instituted in honour of the first Legion staff officer, Capt. Ernest de Esterre, by whose efforts the legion of Frontiersmen was established in New Zealand. This cup is awarded annually at the annual conference to tlie squadron showing the highest average for shooting during the year over ranges 200. 300 and 500 yards, open sights, service rifles, no slings, no artificial sights, forearm off the ground and regulation service targets. Score books are sent to the annual conference, which this year was held at Waipukurau, and the results are worked out by a special committee. The cup has this year been awarded to Heretaunga (Hastings) Squadron with a score of 371, the team being: Col. Holderness, 0.C., Frontiersmen E. E. Rivers, F. Humphries, A .Mclvor, and F. M. Furniss. SergtMajor O'Leary was range officer.
