HASTINGS BUILDING LAWS
(To the Editor.) Sir,—lt is common knowledge that a brick area exists in certain parts of Hastings, especially in the principal blocks of Heretaunga street. How then does it uouie to pass that additions in wood are allowed to be built on to main buildings. If the building law is to be carried out in its entirety no special favour must be shown for anv consideration, nor to any ratepayer. That the building law has been fractured more than once is common knowledge. If elasticity is a feature in the framing of our borough bv-laws, who is to fix tne limit. It offers a verv dangerous proposition, and an inducement to stretch the by-laws. In view of the extensive operations concerning municipal matters in Australia, and some in the air regarding this Dominion the Hastings Council would be guarding their interests if thev tightened un some of their by-laws so that there could be no mistake in their interpretation.—l am etc. “SHE’MER.” Hastings, 25/6/28.
