There is one dog in Auckland who is a “good scout.’’ The other evening in Karangahape road a woman who was crossing the road dropped her umbrella and a motor-car passed over it without causing any damage. A dog immediately ran out from the footpath and picked up the umbrella and placed it at the feet of its owner, and then wagged his tail and ran away. The H.B. A. & P. Society to-day granted the secretary, Mr. A. M. Retemeyer, a substantial bonus in recognition of his valued services to the society. For the convenience of patrons wishing to attend the Taradale returned soldiers’ annual ball, at Taradale, on Wednesday next, buses have been arranged to leave the Albert Motor Company’s Stables, Hastings, at 7.30 p.m.
