WHITSUNTIDE

PEOPLE’S POPULAR HOLIDAY. CONTINENTAL JAUNTS A FEATURE. [British Official Wireless.) (Received 28, 11.3 a.m.) Rugby, May 26. The Whitsuntide holiday traffic, which began last night, when the roads to the country and seaside resorts werq crowded with motor cars and coaches, was exceptionally heavy to-day when fine warm weather set in, following a prolonged sunless and rainy period. On the railways many trains ran in duplicate and triplicate. A feature, of yesterday’s traffic was the large number of Continental bookings, and while 11 vast majority used the steamer services, many travelled by air, and the entire fleet of the Imperial Airways was brought into use. To deal with the passengers 40 air liners of various nationalities were required at the Croydon station to cope with the Continental traffic.
