NAPIER R.S.A.

ANNUAL REPORT. SATISFACTORY YEAR EXPERIENCED. The annual report of the Napier Returned Soldiers’ Association, for the year ended March 31, 1928, to be submitted to the annual general meeting to be held to-night (Thursday) in Scinde Hall at 8 o'clock is inter alia, as follows:— Membership.—The present membership of the association stands at 71. This is a slight decrease on the members for last year and your executive hopes that all financial members will again join this year and that other returned men will join the association which is still doing goo’d work on behalf of returned soldiers. Poppy Day.—The net receipts from the sale of pappies for the year 1927 amount to £145, and this amount, together with the sum of £BO received from the canteen fund making in all £225, was paid to the Napier Borough Council for the purpose of obtaining employment for returned men with dependants. The Borough Council gave a subsidy of pound for pound and under the provisions of the legislation passed during the last session a pound for pound subsidy was also paid to the Borough Council by the Government, so that the association was responsible for the distribution of a total sum of £675 in wages amongst unemployed returned men. The number of men with their dependants who benefited as the result of the association’s contributions was nearly seventy. The association desires to extend its very sincere thanks to those ladies who have from year to year so ably organised and willingly carried out the work of selling poppies on Poppy Day. Anzac Day.—The usual arrangements were made for the suitable observance of Anzac Ray in Napier, and' as was fitting on such an occasion, there was a large muster on parade and a large section of the community joined in observing the ceremonials. Fernie Bequest.—The amount now standing in this fund for relief of distressed returned soldiers is £7l 19/1. During the year one grant of £lO from this fund was made by the association. For the benefit of members it may be explained that this fund is held on trust for the purpose of granting assistance to deserving eases amongst returned soldiers who are suffering from war disability and who are in distressed circumstances. Finance.—The balance sheet shows that the financial position of your association is quite sound. The statement of receipts of incomes and expenditure show an excess of expenditure over income for the year to be £2 6/10. Re-Union. —The annual re-union was held in the Scinde Hall and proved to be a very successful function.
