WAIPUKURAU

NEW AND NOTES. A well-known property of between 800 and 900 acres situated at Mangatarata (Waipukurau) has just changed hands. The new owners hails from the Whakatu district. A collision, occurred yesterday between a motor car driven by Mr H. J. Limpus, of Waipukurau, and a cycle ridden by two boys. Mr Limpus was proceeding to Waipawa, and the boys coming to Waipukurau, the mishap occurring at the bend of the road between the Waipawa traffic and railway bridges. One of the lads, Kanji Otton, a visitor to Waipawa, from Auckland, was seriously injured, and on his removal to the Waipukurau Hospital by Mr C. F. Hartland, who came upon the scene in his car, it was found that a thigh was fractured. His companion (named Miller) was much more fortunate, and escaped with a few minor abrasions as well ns bruises. The cyclo was much damaged, and the radiator of the car dented somewhat. WOMEN’S DIVISION OF FARMERS’ UNION. The annual meeting of the Waipukuratfbranch of the Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union was held on Tuesday, when Mrs T. H. Groomo (president) presided over a good attendance. A report of the year’s work was read by the president, and a balance sheet was presented by the secretary (Miss Beaehen). This was considered most satisfactory, and Mrs Groome complimented the secretary on her untiring efforts during the year. The election of officers resulted as follows:—President: . Mrs T. H. Groome (re-elected); vice-presidents, Lady Hunter and Mrs W. Clark (Argyle); executive, Mrs P. F. Wall and Miss Allan (Hatuma), Mesdames H. M. Rathbone (Waipawa), J. A. Kerr (Rutataniwha), D. Eddy’ (Tikokino), Rosslyn Tod (Otane), C. Pattison (Argyle), and W. T. Edgecombe (Tourere). Discussion took place concerning the necessity for the erection of a Women’s Rest in Waipukurau, and a scheme was suggested whereby a committee should be formed, consisting of representatives from the Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union, Plunket Society and Women’s Institute, to further a scheme for the providing of a building to accommodate a Women’s Rest, Plunket rooms and dental clinic. This was unanimously agreed upon, and the following, with power to add, were appointed to represent the Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union:— Lady Hunter, Mesdames Groomo, Wall, Grant,'Rathbone, Kerr, Eddy, R. H. Tod, W. Clark, Misses Allan, Grant and Beaehen. A suggestion that Wallace Park would be an ideal site for a building as proposed, found favour with a large number of those pre sent. PLUNKET SOCIETY. The usual monthly committee meeting of the Waipukurau branch of the Plunket Society was held ou Tuesday, when there was a good at tendance of members, as follow: Miss Wilson (president, presiding), Mesdames Winlove, Bates, Hopkinson, A. McCormick, Nicholls, Chambers Mathieson, Ormond, Brokd, Paul Hunter, Percy Hunter, Harding, Reid Leigh, Wall, Ward and the secretary (Mrs Sowry). The Nurse’s report for April was read, and went to show the growth of the work, as per the following details: —Waipukurau: Adults 166 babies and children 150; total 316. takapau. Adults 12 babies and children 14; total 26. Norsewood: Adults 9, babies and children 7; total 16. Visits to homes: Waipukurau 60, Takapau 6, Norsewood 6. New cases; Waipukurau 6, Takapau 1, Norsewood I. Naturally fed 6, artificially fed 2, letters received 7, letters written 3. Cases on list: Waipukurau 148, Takapau 45, Norsewood 13. Accounts amounting to £55 19s wore passed for payment. Mesdames Nicholls and Chambers were appointed as visitors to the rooms for the month. The committee thanked Mr A. J. Parker for a donation to the funds. Mrs P. F. Wall, on behalf of the Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union, brought forward a request from that body for a committee to be set up from the Plunket Society, to confer with the members of the Division, with a view to the erection of a combined Women’s Rest, Plunket, and Dental rooms, for Waipukurau district needs. The following subcommittee was appointed by the meet, ing, to confer as desired:—Mesdames McCormick, Broad and Sowry, and Miss Wilson, together with Messrs Chambers, Winlove, and Mackie (members of the Advisory Board).
