HASTINGS HIGH’S MEETING

GREEN HOUSE ANNEXES BANNER. FINAL RESULTS. The seventh annual athletic sports meeting of the Hastings High School was continued yesterday afternoon. Fortunately, the rain held off, but a strong breeze made the running difficult. The track was in excellent condition, and the school has every reason to be proud of its ideal snorting arena. It was a very lengthy programme that faced the school staff, but they made light work of the problem, and from start to finish everything went according to schedule. There was not one delay, and the exciting nature of the finishes gave the numerous parents and friends a most enjoyable afternoon’s sport. Main interest centred around the contest for the banner. This us competed for by the four houses of the school. Excitement ran high amongst the pupils, for it was not until the second to last ra<* of the day that the winner could be ascertained. so keen was the competition. The points gained bv the various houses are given below: — Boys. Girls, Total. Green 95 67 162 I’urpie 75 68 143 Gold 59 70 129 wlue 23 47 70 Un the basis of 5-3-1, the senior championship was won by Apsey, with 15 points (.one nrst, t u ee seconds, and one tim'd). Hagenson was runner-up witii 13 points (two firsts and three thirds). Next on the list weie Collinge 10 points. Beamish d, Patrick 5, and Duke 3. The .junior championship was annexed by 1. Hill with 30 points (six firsts,), Jones with 9 points (three seconds) being runner-up. Others who scored points were Dawson and J. W. Shrimpton 5 points each, C. Taylor 4, and Bower one.
