MARAETOTARA

RATEPAYERS’ MEETING.

(Own Correspondent.) A meeting of the Waimarama ratepayers was held in Mr. Small’s woolshed on Friday night. There was an attendance of over 20, Mr, Barker being in the chair. The association first of all held a general meeting, the minutes of the previous meeting being read and passed, and also correspondence. A general meeting of ratepayers was then held to elect a member for the newly-formed riding. There were three candidates for the position, namely, Messrs Palmer. Riggir and Ryan. The voting was carried out by secret ballot, which resulted in Mr. Palmer being elected by a big majority. Mr. Palmer then thanked the members for their support and promised to look after their interests to the best of his ability. The other candidates congratulated Mr. Palmer on his success, and offered their support should it be necessary at the county election. The ratepayers then elected a new committee, Mr. Barker being elected chairman. Mr Palmer vice-president, and Mr A. D. Gillies secretary. The subscription was fixed at 2/6GENERAL NEWS.

The rainfall for th» month will be iust about a record, 19 inches being recorded up to the present. Grass is abundant everywhere and a good autumn growth is assured.
