MAGISTRATE’S COURT.

SITTING IN HASTINGS

BREACHES OF BY-LAWS.

The usual sitting of the Hastings Magistrate’s Court was held thia morning. Mr. J. G. L. Hewitt. 8.M.. dealt with the following cases :— That he did sell fruit in Hastings without a license was the charge laid against Michael Cuddehy. The borough inspector stated that the defendant had been warned on several occasions since September last but had neglected to obtain a license. A fine of 87- with costs 10/-. was inflicted.

For riding a bicycle on the footpath cost Herbert Love 10/- and costs 10/-.

NOISY MOTOR-CYCLE

For riding a cycle and working it to create an undue noise was the charge laid against Peter- ze. He was also charged with riding a motorcycle at night without lights

Commenting on the first charge, the borough inspector stated that this was the fourteenth case of a similar character that had come before tho court during the nast seven months. The offenders were very difficult to catch because the breaches were committed Into at night or early in the morning.

The defendant was fined £3 on the first charge and £1 on the second. The costs were 10/- in each case.

Judgment by default was given in the following cases:—Peters and Co. v. Mrs. D. Kelleher £3 17/2, cost* £2 0/6; E, S. C'liff and Co. v. E. J. Halford £8 6/6, costs £1 10/6; E. M. Langley and Co., Ltd., v. London Kelly £22 6/1, costs £4 12/6; H.B. Hospital Board v. AVilfred A. Lowe £l5 15/-, costs £2 14/-; H.B. Hospital Board v. G. J. Gibbs £l6 2/-, costs £2 14/-; Tourist Motor Co, v. M. McCormick £2 19/6, costs £1 3/6. Judgment Summonses.—Tumansko Raihania was ordered to pay Atkinson and Stacey £lO 17/- in monthly instalments of £2 in default nine days’ imprisonment; V. Horne to pay W. H. Hoar £1 18'9 in default one day's imprisonment; P. H. Tomoana to pay Alexander’s A’nlcanising Works £l9 3/11 in monthly payments of £2 in default 19 days’ imprisonment.
