TAKAPAU

ADVANCEMENT ASSOCIATION.

(Own Correspondent,) Mr. N. M. Paulsen presided at a well-attended meeting of the Takapau Advancement. Association held on Monday evening. Correspondence was received from the Waipawa County Council relative to tree planting in the main streets.— Rev. H. Blathwayt, Messrs W. Hobson. J. A. Norrie and F. A. Ihompson were appointed a sub-committee to go into the matter and report at the next meeting. The following committee was set up to further telephone extension at Marakeke and interview the settlers: Messi's N. M Paulsen, G. Mulholland and W. Cuthbertson. Arrangements were made for the Anr.ac service on April 25. and Messrs J. A. Grant, J. W. Cato. J. Caughley and W Cuthbertson were appointed t.o attend to the details required. [.cave of absence was granted to the chairman, Mr, N. M. Paulsen, who is leaving early next month on a trip to the. Old Country, It was decided to convey to Mr. A. Latimer, who has been stationmaster at Takapau for some time and who has now been promoted to Addington, the appreciation of the association for the way in which he has worked to increase, facilities for handling goods at the railway station and to wish him al] happiness and success in his new sphere.

CALEDONIAN SOCIETY.

A meeting of the directors of the Caledonian Society was held on Monday evening when Mr. N. M. Paulsen (vice-president) occupied the chair m the absence of the permanent chairman, Mr. H A. Speedy. The secretary (Mr. W. Cuthbertson) submitted a report and rough statement in connection with the recently held sports meeting, which showed that this popular annual fathering had been most successful and was an improvement in all respects to the gathering of T 927. Accounts amounting to £lO6 were passed for payment. Votes of thanks were .accorded to the Plunket Society for the excellent way they had conducted the tearooms on Caledonian day. to the donors of trophies, and to the Waipawa Amateur Athletic Club and officials for the valuable help they had rendered. Recommendations In connection with improvements suggested were noted down for future reference. A vote of thanks to the chairman terminated the meeting. Mesdames De Staepoole. N. M. Paulsen and Messrs N. M. Panlsen and W. Cuthliertson are this Week canvassing the district in aid of the local Phinket Society's building fund Tt, is anticipated that as a result, of the canvass a sum in the vicinity of £5OO will be raised.
