NEWS AND NOTES. A cold snap is being experienced in the Waipukurau district at present. The weather for more than three weeks past has been more characteristics of a wet month in winter than the autumn season. “The Sunshine Girl,” a sparkling two-act musical comedy success, was staged in Waipukurau last night before ar. appreciative audience by the Waipawa Operatic Society. Unfortunately the coldness of the elements had a somewhat adverse effect upon the attendance. The entertainment afforded was an exocellent one and reflected great credit upon the society, C.R. Bro. J. Granger presided over a large attendance of members at the quarterly meeting of Court Ruahinc. A.O I-'. The report of delegates to the recent meeting with the Hospital Board was received and the trustees wer emplowercd to sign the new agree ment with the board. One new member was initiated during the evening by C.R. Bro. Granger assisted by P.C.R. Bro. Taylor. The social committee reported having a good so c>al programme for the winter months, the first of the series to begin next court night. April sth. Mr an l Mrs E. H. Leigh have ro turned from their visit to Nelson. Mr and Mrs A. H. Tinkham. and family will leave shortly for .South Wairarti.pa, where Mr Tinkhnjn has purchased two farms. Mr linkham a> one time was the owner oi Station and lattterly of Waipukurau and Whetukura. The monthly meeting of the Central Hawke’s Bay Electrical Power Board will be held on Friday next. A meeting was held last evening to copsiiler the matter of a farewell to Mr W. 8. Thompson, stationmaster who i: leaving on promotion for Helens vilie II was decided to tender Mr Thompson a smoke concert on Thins day evening A strong committee whs snt up to make the necessary arrangements. The bye-election in connection with the vacancy on the Waipukurau Borough Council took place yesterday ■.he polling being very poor. The result was as follows; D. B. Kent 238 G. A. Ellison 101.
