PARKE ISLAND HOME

MEETING OF COMMITTEE. GENERAL BUSINESS. Th© usual bi-monthly meeting of the Parke Island Home Committee was held at Parke Island yesterday. Present: Messrs J. B, Andrew 7 (chairman), L. Stein A. E. Before! C. O. Morse, F. J Witherow and D. Drummond. Leave of absence was granted to Messrs W. Shrimpton and W. H. Rathbone.

Some discussion took place on the question of accounts being passed for payment as recommended bv the finance committee at which only two members attended, it was agreed to add to the by-laws that the quorum for a finance committee be two members along with the secretary. The master (Mr. Hay-Chapman > reported that during January 17 inmates were admitted and 12 were discharged, leaving the home at date 71 males and five females. Work in the garden had been confined to attending to standing crops and manuring vacant areas. Despite the dry weather most of the crops had done well. A. I] blackberries and boxthorn had been grubbed out and a start made with ploughing the fiats. It was decided to write thanking the Hawke’s Bay Clulj for presenting to the home eleven uozen dinner plates, eight dozen bread and butter plates, and two dozen saucers. Accounts totalling £449 15/3 were passed for payment. The monthly balance-sheet showing a debit balance of £47 11/4 was adopted.
